Guwahati, Oct 4: Assam Congress has suspended its MLA from Baghbar constituency, Sherman Ali Ahmed from the party for ‘repeatedly violating party discipline’.
The suspension order was signed by APCC General Secretary Bobbeeta Sharma on Sunday.Ahmed had made controversial statement on martyrs of Assam Agitation. Ali in a statement justified the killing of eight people in Darrang district in 1983 during the Assam agitation, who were declared “martyrs” and he termed them as “killers”. Few days back, the eviction drive at Darrang turned violent, resulting in death of two people in police firing.
Sherman Ali Ahmed sent to 2-day police custody
Congress MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed, who was arrested by police on October 2, 2021 for making “communal and provocative” remarks, was on Sunday remanded to two-day police custody.
The police had sought for his 10-day custody but the Court remanded him to police custody only for two days.
