Assam cracks down on Orunodoi 2.0 misuse, eyes fresh start with new initiatives

Must read

Guwahati, Dec 23: In a major move to safeguard its flagship welfare program, the Assam government has identified 682 state employees who unlawfully benefited from the Orunodoi 2.0 scheme, designed to support economically disadvantaged families. The program, which offers Rs. 1,250 monthly via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), explicitly excludes government employees.

After a cabinet meeting in Dibrugarh, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that departmental proceedings will be initiated against the errant employees. “We detected them through the Orunodoi 2.0 database. Their names have been removed, and the amount they received will be recovered from their salaries. Their identities will also be made public,” Sarma stated.

The government also excluded 26 additional beneficiaries from the scheme for paying GST, which disqualifies them under Orunodoi rules. As Orunodoi 2.0 closes, the state is now preparing to launch Orunodoi 3.0, promising better safeguards and outreach.
