Guwahati, Oct 11: The two-day Defence Expo ‘East Tech’ concluded in Guwahati on Wednesday, which saw active participation from nearly 200 manufacturers across India.
Lt General Rana Pratap Kalita, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Command, along with Assam Industries and Commerce Minister Bimal Borah, inaugurated the event.
This event showcased cutting-edge military-grade software, hardware, machinery, and gadgets, symbolizing a leap in technological advancements for the region.
Lt. General Kalita emphasized the importance of aligning manufacturers with the specific needs of the armed forces, ensuring direct communication between end-users in field formations and producers.
He stressed the significance of self-sufficiency in technology, underlining the need for equipping troops adequately and relying on indigenous technology for national defence.
Addressing the challenges faced by the armed services, ranging from traditional warfare to counter-insurgency operations, Lt. Gen. Kalita highlighted the expo’s focus on indigenous technology.
He explained that the Army has initiated similar expos tailored for different command formations, with this event following successful initiatives in Kolkata.
To bridge gaps in procurement processes, the event provided a platform for buyers and sellers to understand the intricacies of procurement, aided by financial experts.
Assam Industries and Commerce Minister Bimal Borah emphasized Assam’s strategic significance for defence industry producers, encouraging them to explore the state’s advantages.
He assured full support from the state government in terms of infrastructure and logistical advancements.
This Defence Expo not only marks a significant step forward in strengthening Northeast India’s security but also showcases the region’s potential as a hub for defence technology innovation and collaboration.
