Guwahati, Dec 11: The Assam police shot dead a dreaded robber in a police firing at Dergaon in Assam’s Golaghat district.

The deceased criminal has been identified as Lagan Sahani.

Lagan was arrested by the Dergaon police on Sunday night.

“When the police team were conducting search operations along with the accused, Sahani tried to attack the police and escape from the custody. In retaliation, the police resorted to fire on him. He was injured after bullet struck him and later declared dead by doctors in hospital,” said a police source.

Meanwhile, his dead body was sent for post-mortem. After all medical procedure his body will be handed over to his family members.

Assam police have taken a tough stand against the criminals in the state, and so far, many dreaded criminals have been nabbed and sent to jail.
