Guwahati, Mar 25: The driver of an Indian oil gas tanker parked along National Highway-6 in Guwahati’s Twelve Mile area was seen flouting safety norms and filling gas from the tanker into a LPG cylinder.Local Subhash Boro of the residential area of Twelve Mile, said Indian oil gas tanker (NL 02G 3878) was filling LPG gas in two LPG cylinders, which is hazardous and posed danger to the residents and passer-bys along the National Highway.
The empty cylinder was brought to the roadside through an auto rickshaw (AS-25EC-9362) to fill LPG in the cylinder. The gas was filled in both the cylinders without any safety precautions. Locals say that if an accident had happened while filling the gas, then the entire area would have been engulfed in flames.The local people said that the people should take strict action against such hoaxes along the National Highway. At the same time, two people who came with a car (AS-01 DY-8929) have also been involved in this incident.
It is worthy to note that whether Indian oil and the police administration will take any action against people who illegally fill LPG gas from tankers is a big question.
It is also worth mentioning here that on November 01, 1998, a similar incident took place in the Farm Gate area of Khanapara. In the said incident, 9 people died due to fire while filling gas from LPG tanker to LPG cylinder, while more than 120 people were badly burnt in the ensuing fire.
