Guwahati, Sep 12: A drug inspector posted at Cachar district was allegedly beaten up by a group of doctors at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) on Sunday evening.
The drug inspector has been identified as Bonrai Rongmai. He has been posted as Inspector of Drugs in the Office of the Directorate of Health Services, Assam.
An FIR has been filed at the Ghungoor police station after the incident.
“I’ve come to see my sister-in-law, who was admitted at Silchar Medical College, and her dialysis has been going on. After the dialysis, the doctors gave her blood tests. When I asked an intern doctor about the tests, he misbehaved with me. After that, I was suggested to go to another ward, where a technician misbehaved with me and started an argument. In the meantime, a group of doctors came and started thrashing me. I’ve been brutally beaten by them, and when I told them I am a drug inspector posted at Cachar, they still didn’t stop,” said the victim drug inspector.
The drug inspector is undergoing treatment at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. He has suffered injuries to his forehead as a result of the assault.
He said that he could identify those responsible for the attack.
This was not the first time at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Earlier, many such incidents were reported from the hospital.
SMCH has faced multiple allegations of misconduct and mistreatment by its staff in the recent past.
