Assam: Drugs worth Rs 20 cr seized in Karbi Anglong

Guwahati, March 13: In a joint operation, Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) arrested a drug smuggler and recovered 5 kg of heroin worth Rs 20 crore during an operation in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district.

After getting specific inputs, the joint operation was launched and during checking huge consignment of heroin was seized from a vehicle on the Assam-Nagaland border area.

“The market value of the recovered drug is Rs 20 crore and the drug was concealed by making a secret chamber in the upper body of the vehicle,” said a police official.

Police said a case has been registered under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

On March 11, Assam police seized 1.300 kg of heroin from a vehicle in Karimganj district along the Assam-Mizoram border and apprehended three persons.

Assam police have started massive crackdown against drugs in the state and, so far, huge quantity of narcotic substances have been seized.
