Dibrugarh, July 2: The embankment of the Buridehing river in the Hatibondha area of Tengakhat in Dibrugarh was breached on Tuesday afternoon resulting in extensive flooding.
The breach has led to considerable water overflow, impacting several areas.
In the Bhagamur area within the Dibrugarh West Revenue Circle, the Buridehing River’s water is overflowing the embankment.
“This overflow has affected Borbam No. 1 & 2 Village, Na-Khangia, Hatibandha, and surrounding areas. The impacted regions include Puroni Khangia, Tamuli Khat, Deobil, and other nearby areas under the Na-Khangia Hatibandha and Dhorai-Digholia Panchayat of Tengakhat Block,” said an official.
This situation has led to significant disruptions, with local authorities now assessing the damage and coordinating relief efforts for the affected residents.
On the other hand, a major crack has developed on the Gammon Bridge over the Buri Dihing river near Khowang in Dibrugarh.
One end of the bridge towards Dibrugarh from the Sivasagar side has sunk, raising the possibility of a catastrophic accident at any time. The movement of heavy vehicles is likely to be disrupted at any moment.
