Guwahati, Nov 24: The Kamrup district administration continued its eviction drive for the second consecutive day on Friday at Palasbari town in Assam’s Kamrup district.
The eviction drive was carried out against the illegal encroachers at Moirapur in Palashbari. The drive has been going on since Thursday morning. Bulldozer were used to razed the house illegally constructed by the people.
The eviction drive aims to deport individuals who have unlawfully established residences in forested zones and government-owned lands.
This comes in the wake of similar operations in Silsako Beel and other parts of the state in recent days.
Palashbari revenue circle officer was present at the spot during the eviction drive.
Recently, 600 houses were demolished in the eviction drive at Silsako Beel in Guwahati.
The eviction drives at Silsako Beel are not new; in fact, they can be traced back to 2008-2010 during former CM Tarun Gogoi’s term. However, the earlier drives were not as massive as the recent ones.
Around 120 bighas of land of the beel, which were illegally occupied by several families, were cleared in September, this year, in the third phase of the eviction drive. The first phase of the eviction drive was conducted in May last year and the second one in February this year.
