Assam: Father and son die after wall collapse in Cachar due to incessant rains

Guwahati, July 2: Following incessant rains for the last couple of days in Assam, a man and his minor son died after the wall of their house collapsed in Cachar’s Udharbond on Monday.

The victims have been identified as Azir Uddin Barbhuiya and his minor son Ashif Uddin.

They were rushed to hospital but doctors declared them brought dead.

According to reports, the incident took place at Haltakandi, Durganagar Part 1, under the Urldharbond constituency of Cachar district of Assam.

“The man and his six-month-old infant son lost their lives when a mud wall collapsed on them during the night time,” said a local resident.

The nine-member family, comprising women and children, was asleep when the mud wall unexpectedly collapsed burying them under the debris.

The flood situation in Assam has escalated to critical level, with over 6.44 lakh people affected across 19 districts. Eight rivers are currently flowing above the danger marks, including the Brahmaputra, which has breached its highest flood level at Nematighat in Jorhat district.
