Guwahati, Apr 30: Female students in Assam have once again outperformed their male peers in the Higher Secondary (HS) examinations, according to the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB).

This year’s HS results show a decline in overall performance, mirroring the downward trend observed in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) results. The HS pass percentage dropped from 88.64% in 2024 to 82.95%, while the HSLC pass rate fell sharply from 75.7% to 63.98%.

A total of 3,02,613 students appeared for the Higher Secondary exams, of which 2,47,462 passed, resulting in an overall pass percentage of 81.77%. Of the total candidates, 1,62,423 were female and 1,44,502 were male, highlighting a higher female participation. Male students recorded a pass percentage of 78.42%, significantly lower than their female counterparts.

The Science stream posted the highest success rate, with around 85% of candidates passing. Out of 48,309 students who passed in this stream, 25,827 secured first division. In the Commerce stream, 14,584 students passed, with 6,519 achieving first division marks. The Arts stream, which had the largest enrollment of 226,756 students, saw 183,745 students pass, including 49,577 in the first division. Vocational courses had 824 successful candidates, 60 of whom scored first division.

Education Minister Ranoj Pegu congratulated students via a post on X, stating: “ASSEB has declared the results for Higher Secondary in Arts, Science, Commerce, and Vocational courses today. Congratulations to those who have been successful, and best wishes for your future endeavours.”
