Guwahati, April 12: The Inspector of Schools, Kamrup (Metro) District Circle, has issued show-cause notices to five government high schools in Guwahati following their dismal performance in the 2025 High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination.
The schools—Barsojai High School, Maligaon High School, NPME High School, Pilingkata High School, and Dispur Government High School—recorded pass percentages below 25%, prompting the education authorities to initiate disciplinary action.

In a notice issued on Thursday, Inspector of Schools Dipika Choudhury expressed serious concern over the “lack of commitment” and highlighted “possible lapses in school-level administration and academic supervision” as key factors behind the poor results.
“The schools have not been performing up to expectations, which is a serious matter of concern, discouraging the student community,” the notice stated.

This development comes in the wake of the Assam State School Education Board announcing the HSLC 2025 results, which showed a statewide pass percentage of 63.98%—a sharp decline from last year’s 75.7%.
