Dibrugarh, Mar 7: Following the public advisory issued on Wednesday, the forest department has placed cages at two locations of Dibrugarh to capture the stray leopard.
However, the animal remains elusive, keeping residents on high alert.
Despite continuous efforts of the forest department, the leopard has yet to be captured.
The administration is closely monitoring the situation and has urged the public to remain cautious and cooperate with authorities to ensure safety.
For the last few days, the leopard has created a fear psychosis among the people of Dibrugarh. The Dibrugarh forest department have tried to tranquilize the animal but failed.
“We have put cages in two locations of Dibrugarh to capture the leopard which has been venturing for last few days. The leopard has comes out from forest in search of food and entered residential area,” said a forest official.
On March 1, CCTV footage captured the leopard near the Dibrugarh Address Guest House, sparking concern among local residents. The forest department has been unsuccessful in capturing the leopard so far despite many attempts.
The Dibrugarh Divisional Forest Office has issued a public advisory instructing residents on how to stay safe.
“This is to warn the residents of Dibrugarh that we have received reports of a stray leopard spotted within the city limits,” the advisory states. It has laid out specific guidelines for residents to follow. Residents are urged to stay indoors, particularly during the night, and to ensure that all doors and windows are securely locked.
“Due to shrinking of forest covers and unavailability of food, the leopards are coming out of the forest. Leopards generally seen in the tea garden areas but now due to the cutting down of tea bushes, the leopards are entering human habitation for shelter and food,” said a nature lover.
