Assam: Govt employees unhappy with State’s ‘no jab no pay’ move

Must read

Guwahati, June 26: Sadou Assam Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) on Friday vehemently criticised the state government’s decision on ‘no vaccination no salary ‘move.

Sadou Assam Karmachari Parishad is one of the largest working organisation of employees in Assam with at least 4 lakh members.

Shyamanta Das, General Secretary of SAKP, said, “We oppose the government move of ‘no vaccination, no salary’ because there are many workers who have heart related disease and they have not taken the vaccination. This is injustice to the government employees those who are suffering from chronic disease.”

The Assam government on Wednesday said that the salaries of its employees will be released only after they have inoculated themselves with COVID-19 vaccinations.

Through a government notification, Assam Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua has instructed all the department heads “to ascertain the vaccination status of such frontline government servants before releasing the monthly salary/remuneration from current month onwards.”

The notification further stated: “Non-vaccination of the frontline government servants may give rise to the possibility of further spread of the virus which, in turn, may endanger the lives of common citizens, especially the vulnerable groups like infant, pregnant women etc.”

It may, however, be mentioned that though COVID-19 vaccination have prevented a person from showing symptoms even after contracting the virus, but it is still inconclusive if it stops the virus’s transmission.

Assam had begun a massive vaccination drive coinciding with the Centre’s roll out of free vaccination from June 21.
