Assam Govt pushes premium slots for The Sabarmati Report

Must read

Guwahati, Dec 4: The Assam government has officially requested film distributors across the Northeast to allot premium slots for The Sabarmati Report, a film based on the Godhra train burning incident. The BJP has urged citizens to watch the movie, highlighting its portrayal of the “truth” behind the 2002 tragedy.

In a letter addressed to film distributors, Assam’s Information and Public Relations Minister, Pijush Hazarika, emphasized the growing public interest in the film. “The Sabarmati Report has sparked widespread discussion and appreciation in Assam, with immense enthusiasm from the public to watch it in cinemas across the state,” Hazarika wrote.

He requested that the film be screened in all cinema halls starting December 6, 2024, for a week, during the 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. slots. “On behalf of all movie enthusiasts in Assam, I urge you to take necessary steps for its release,” he added.

BJP members were notably present at theaters during the film’s release, reflecting strong party support. This move mirrors the government’s backing of The Kashmir Files in 2022, when state employees were granted, a half-day leave to watch the film.
