Assam: Guwahati Airport to be promoted by Adani Group as regional tourism hub

Guwahati, June 9: A seminar was organised by the Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) on Thursday to promote tourism in the northeast at the Guwahati Airport. The seminar focussed on various prospects and possibilities for promotion of tourism industry in the region.

The seminar was also attended by Assam’s Tourism Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, AAHL representatives, Airline services, and several dignitaries from tourism departments of the northeastern states, and also the airport authorities at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) airport.

While addressing the seminar, Mallabaruah said that air transport boosts the tourism industry apart from cultural exchange. This is also a major emerging economic factor in Assam.

Taking to Twitter Jayanta Mallabaruah wrote, “Pleased to be present in a day long discussion titled “The role of Airports in the process of developing the Tourism Industry in Northeast India” in presence of representatives of AAHL, Airline services and airport authorities at LGBI Airport, Guwahati today. As air transport enables millions of people to engage in cultural exchange it also gives boost to the tourism industry, which is a major emerging economic factor in Assam. It is a matter of sheer pride that Guwahati has emerged as the 10th busiest airport in the country and it has enormous potential to grow even more in terms of capacity. It was very captivating to look into the presentation put forwarded by Sher Khan, Deputy CEO, AAHL where he highlighted the road map to transform the airport into a more sophisticated & developed place in the coming days which will create the airport into a Regional Hub. Under able leadership of Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma”.

“Assam has emerged as an extremely hospitable tourist destination and with new initiatives coming up, we want to develop non-stop and direct overseas connectivity in Guwahati Airport which will firmly help us to receive more tourists inflow in the state in the days to come”, he added.

Sher Khan, Deputy CEO, AAHL, also highlighted the road map to transform the airport and ways to transform it in the coming days which will create the airport into a regional hub.

Meanwhile, the Guwahati’s LGBI Airport witnessed nearly 39 per cent jump in footfall during the winter session.

The Adani Group-controlled facility said in a statement that out of the total 28 lakh footfall, nearly 14 lakh were departure passengers and the remaining were arrival travelers.
