Assam: Heavy storm uproots trees and electric poles in Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh, March 27: Heavy hailstorms as well as wind storms caused extensive damage at various places in and around Dibrugarh on Monday.

According to sources, the big trees and electric poles were uprooted in AMCH road after heavy hailstorm as well as wind storm lashed several areas in Dibrugarh.

The officials of Dibrugarh district administration rushed to the affected areas to take stock of the situations.

Meanwhile, the power supply has been snapped in many places of Dibrugarh after big trees were uprooted and fell on the electric lines. In many areas, the electric poles were also damaged due to the storm.

Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu said, “Many electric poles and trees uprooted due to the heavy storm in AMCH road. Our team has rushed to the place to enquire the damaged.”

Sources said that many small shops in front of AMCH road were damaged due to the heavy storm.

Also, sources said Moran MLA Chakradhar Gogoi’s wife had a narrow escape as a tree fell near her vehicles while she was on her way to AMCH.

According to reports, many vehicles were damaged due to trees falling on them.

“The current has been cut off in most parts of Dibrugarh town after the electric poles were damaged due to the storm which hit Dibrugarh this evening. Our team has been working to restore the electricity in the AMCH road, which was badly affected due to the heavy storm,” said an official.
