Guwahati, April 11: The results of the Assam High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) 2025 examination were declared today, with students from Jorhat and Guwahati securing the top ranks. Three students achieved exceptional scores, with one securing a near perfect score.

Amishree Saikia from Pragya Academy Senior Secondary School, Jorhat, topped the list with 591 out of 600 marks (98.50%). The second position was secured by Saptarswa Bardoloi from Assam Jatiya Vidyalaya, Noonmati, Guwahati, who scored 590 marks (98.33%). Anirban Borgohain, also from Pragya Academy Senior Secondary School, Jorhat, secured the third rank with 589 marks (98.17%).

Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu extended his congratulations to the toppers via social media, applauding their dedication and wishing them success in their future academic pursuits. However, he also expressed concern over the overall decline in pass percentage this year.
The overall pass percentage for HSLC 2025 stands at 63.98%, marking a significant drop from last year’s 75.7%. A total of 4,29,449 students registered for the examination, of which 4,22,737 appeared, while 6,712 were absent.

Minister Pegu highlighted the concerning disparity in pass percentages among specific social groups. The pass rate among Scheduled Caste students stood at 58.56%, while the Tea Garden community recorded a lower 51.89%, both falling below the state average. Addressing these gaps, he announced that the Education Department will implement targeted interventions in the 2025–26 academic year to bridge the learning divide and promote inclusive education.
This year’s results also revealed a gender gap in academic performance. While 67.59% of boys cleared the exams, the pass percentage for girls stood at 61.09%. Minister Pegu emphasized the importance of flagship initiatives such as the Banikanta Kakoty Award (Scooty) and the CM’s Nijut Moina Scheme, both aimed at encouraging and empowering girl students across Assam.

Sivasagar emerged as the top-performing district with an impressive 85.55% pass rate. The top five districts with the highest success rates are:
Sivasagar – 85.55%
Dibrugarh – 81.10%
Dhemaji – 80.64%
Jorhat – 79.61%
Kamrup (M) – 78.79%

Conversely, several districts recorded lower pass rates, indicating areas needing improvement:
Sribhumi – 47.96%
Goalpara – 51.31%
Cachar – 51.58%
Hojai – 52.61%
Dhubri – 54.89%
Minister Pegu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening education policies, ensuring equitable learning opportunities, and uplifting underrepresented student groups in the coming academic year.
