Assam: Huge consignment of Marijuana worth Rs 1 crore seized in Jorabat

Guwahati, Jan 21: In a major crackdown against drug trafficking, Assam police seized 101 kg of Ganja (Marijuana) from a truck in Assam’s Jorabat area on Saturday morning.

After getting specific information, Guwahati Joint Commissioner of Police, Partha Sarthi Mahanta along with a team of city police intercepted a truck at Jorabat during a Naka checking and recovered the huge consignment of drugs hidden inside the vehicle.

The police also arrested two persons in connection with the seizure.

“We received an information and, during the search operation, we have found huge consignment of Ganja which was kept inside the truck. The truck was coming from Tripura side and (was) on its way towards North India. The market value of the seized marijuana is estimated to be around Rs 1 crore,” said a police official.

The Assam police have started a massive crackdown against contraband drugs and so far huge quantity of drugs have been seized.

On Thursday, police had seized Ganja weighing about 320 kg from Khanapara area of Assam. The market value of the Ganja was Rs 2 crore.

In yet another incident of major drug haul, Karimganj Police on January 17 seized 88 kgs of Yaba tablets from Nischintapur in Bagargul area of Assam’s Karimganj district.

“Within one week, huge consignments of contraband substance have been seized in Assam. We are carrying out crackdown against the drugs and so far our police team have tasted huge success. We will continue our crackdown against the drugs,” a police official said.
