Dibrugarh, July 17: Hundreds of passengers narrowly avoided a major train accident when the engine of a moving train detached in eastern Assam’s Dibrugarh on Tuesday evening.
The incident took place at Chaulkhowa, Dibrugarh at around 7.30 PM.

The engine and coaches of the 15960 Kamrup Express separated while the train was in motion. The engine continued ahead, leaving the coaches behind.

The Kamrup Express had departed from New Dibrugarh Railway Station at Banipur, also called Banipur railway station, for Howrah earlier on Tuesday evening.
Railway officials promptly arrived at the scene to investigate the incident.
This follows a recent tragic accident where nine people were killed and at least 40 injured after the Sealdah-bound Kanchanjunga Express from Agartala was rear-ended by a goods train in West Bengal’s Darjeeling district, 11 km from New Jalpaiguri station.
