Guwahati, Dec 31: In a significant development, a Bangladeshi national residing illegally and enlisted in the voter’s list was apprehended by authorities in Assam’s Morigaon district. The arrest, confirmed by a local police officer on Sunday.
Acting on a credible tip-off, police conducted a late-night raid in Chenimari village, resulting in the apprehension of an individual possessing a Bangladeshi passport. The suspect had sought refuge in the residence of a woman without prior notification to the police, as disclosed by Superintendent of Police Hemanta Kumar Das.
The apprehend person has been identified as Islam Mandal in Assam has unveiled suspicions of potential jihadist affiliations. Investigations reveal that the arrested individual, who had illicitly registered in the voter’s list as Noor Mandal under the Lahorighat assembly constituency, had taken deliberate measures to conceal his true identity.
The recent arrest of Islam Mandal in Assam, who is suspected to have engaged in anti-national activities, took a more concerning turn as Superintendent of Police Hemanta Kumar Das disclosed that the apprehended individual had participated in the previous assembly polls.
Authorities have also taken a 14-year-old boy into custody, suspecting him of being another illegal Bangladeshi national. Heightening their efforts, the police have intensified operations in the district, expressing concerns that more individuals might have entered the area illegally to carry out activities against the nation.
