Guwahati, June 14: Heavy and incessant rainfall have created a flood like situation in Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts of upper Assam.

Over 20,000 people in Lakhimpur district’s Nowboicha have been affected, while about 150 people have been affected in Dhemaji district.

According to reports, the dyke breach at the Subansiri Dam in Lakhimpur district of Assam took place on Wednesday.

Heavy torrential rainfall has caused flash flood with high rising tides hitting the hilly slopes on either side of river Subansiri near the SLHEP-Gerukamukh causing landslides and rise in water levels.

The current of the rising water of Subansiri breached the dyke, constructed temporarily for the powerhouse of the plant, inundating the area.

NHPC official said the breached dyke was supposed to be brought down in coming days. There is no threat to the power house.
