Guwahati, Jan 18: The Assam government has launched an initiative to improve school infrastructure and support student career readiness.

A Civil Works Monitoring Portal and two new Career Guidance Table Books were launched under Samagra Shiksha, Assam (SSA).

Education Minister Ranoj Pegu inaugurated these initiatives on Saturday, aiming to enhance infrastructure development across more than 45,000 government and provincialized schools while equipping students with essential career insights.

The Civil Works Monitoring Portal is designed to ensure real-time tracking of construction projects such as classrooms, science labs, computer rooms, toilets, ramps, and teachers’ quarters. Accessible via the SSA web portal (ssa.assam.gov.in), the system allows state, district, and block-level authorities to monitor progress through multi-level logins. Junior Engineers will upload geotagged photos of ongoing projects, promoting transparency, accountability, and timely execution.

“This portal will enhance efficiency in monitoring civil works, ensuring faster completion and high-quality infrastructure in over 45,000 schools,” said Minister Pegu during the launch.

To guide students in making informed career choices, the minister also introduced Volumes III and IV of the Career Guidance Table Books, developed in partnership with UNICEF. Covering over 200 career pathways, these volumes highlight opportunities in fields like Arts, Media, Entertainment, Vocational Careers, Banking, Engineering, Law, Health, and Management.

The initiative builds on the success of Volumes I and II, published last year, which focused on STEM and non-STEM career options. These resources reached 4,285 secondary and senior secondary schools, along with calendar-format career charts distributed to 864,399 students. Additionally, 4,326 nodal teachers received career guidance training at the district level.

To further enhance career support, SSA also runs Career Podcasts, featuring industry experts who share success stories, engage with students, and provide guidance on achieving career goals.
