Guwahati, March 10: Assam is set to make history with two groundbreaking initiatives—India’s first AI-powered Anti-Deepfake & Cyber Surveillance Lab and the launch of its own satellite, ASSAMSAT. These bold steps, announced by Finance Minister Ajanta Neog in the State Budget 2025-26, aim to strengthen cybersecurity, tackle digital threats, and revolutionize governance through advanced satellite technology.
Assam will establish India’s first AI-driven Cyber Surveillance Lab to combat deepfake threats, digital fraud, and misinformation. The state-of-the-art facility will specialize in real-time online threat detection & digital forensics, deepfake identification using advanced AI and cybercrime tracking & intelligence support for law enforcement.
“This initiative will equip Assam Police with cutting-edge tools to counter digital threats, ensuring a safer cyberspace,” Neog said.
The Assam government, in collaboration with IN-SPACe & ISRO, will launch ASSAMSAT, a state-owned satellite designed to provide continuous & reliable data flow for socio-economic projects, enhanced efficiency in agriculture, disaster management, & infrastructure planning, and better border security & law enforcement support.
Additionally, college students in Assam will contribute to experimental satellite projects, fostering scientific curiosity and innovation. “ASSAMSAT will not only boost governance but also position Assam as a key player in India’s space advancements,” Neog stated.
