Guwahati, Dec 20: The Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) in Guwahati has conducted the bi-annual Full Scale Aerodrome Emergency Exercise (FSAEE), RHINO 2024.
Crucial for the assessment of emergency preparedness and interagency coordination, the exercise conducted in the airport premises on December 17, saw the LGBIA team working in alignment with the regulatory authorities, the Kamrup district administration, State Disaster Response Force, a medical team and other stakeholders.
The exercise simulated a scenario where a flight, ‘VT-XXX’ from Kolkata to Guwahati with 115 passengers onboard reported the failure of both engines. The aircraft landed on runway 02 and a crash was simulated near Taxiway Golf.
As part of the exercise, the crash fire tenders of LGBI Airport rushed to the simulated site, extinguished the fire and rescued the passengers on board.
The drill commenced at 1:30 PM and concluded at 3:30 PM on the same day.
This realistic simulation allowed LGBI Airport to evaluate the preparedness and response strategies in handling such emergencies.
Key stakeholders including the district administration, hospitals, Central Industrial Security Force, Indian Air Force, National Disaster Response Force, Assam police, state fire department, Air Traffic Controller, Airports Authority of India, Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, Directorate General of Civil Aviation, airlines, customs, immigration, and internal teams such as Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting and various internal as well as external agencies actively participated in the exercise, ensuring a comprehensive and coordinated response.
Their dedication and collaboration are crucial in maintaining the highest standards of safety and security at LGBI Airport.
