Guwahati, April 20: In a gruesome incident that has shocked Assam’s Chirang district, a 60-year-old man allegedly beheaded his wife and carried her severed head to the police station to surrender.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening in Uttar Ballamguri, Bijni. The accused, Bitish Hajong, a daily-wage labourer, reportedly killed his wife, Bajanti Hajong, following a domestic dispute. He placed her head in the basket of his bicycle and cycled to the Ballamguri police outpost to turn himself in.

According to local residents, the couple frequently fought over minor issues. “The incident happened after Bitish returned home from work. They often argued, and this time, it turned fatal,” a villager said.

Speaking to reporters, Chirang Additional Superintendent of Police Rashmirekha Sarma confirmed the incident. “We have taken custody of the body and sent it for post-mortem. Forensic experts have visited the scene and collected samples. The husband has been detained, and investigation is underway,” she said.
She added, “At this stage, we cannot speculate on the exact motive behind the murder.”
