Guwahati, Aug 17: In an shocking incident being reported from Assam, a 25-year-old man beheaded a 55-year-old and then walked for 25 km in the dead of the night with the decapitated head to surrender at a police station on Monday.
The shocking murder was triggered by a dispute over Rs 500. The victim had asked for a loan of Rs. 500 from the assailant earlier in the day but the latter refused.
This shocking incident took place at Doyalpur under Rangapara police station in northern Assam’s Sonitpur district on Monday night but it was after about 24 hours that the shocking murder came to light since the area is extremely remote and part of Assam’s border with neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh.
According to police sources, the accused – Suniram Madri – who walked into the police station with the head of one Boila Hemram, has been arrested.
Police sources added that a few people from the village had won a goat after a football match and Suniram Madri was going past the house of Boila Hemram to a place where the animal was to be slaughtered. On seeing Hemram, Madri asked the victim to accompany him but he refused, saying the assailant did not help him with Rs 500, and threatened him. This probably riled the assailant and he carried out the attack.
After killing the man, Madri went home carrying the severed head. His elder brother reportedly tried to beat him up but he managed to flee, and he walked 25 km to reach the police station and surrendered with the severed head that he carried in a bag. He was carrying a machete too, with which he had killed Hemram.
Both the victim and assiliant belong to the same community.
