Guwahati, Sept 4: In a tragic incident, a 24-year-old medical student in Assam’s Silchar was found hanging from the ceiling of his house on Tuesday night.
According to reports, he was pursuing MBBS from Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) and was in final year.
According to police, they have recovered two notes from the spot, believed to be written by the student. “He hinted about a possible attempt of suicide with these notes,” said a police official.
The incident happened at around 10 PM on Tuesday and police reached the area at around 10:30 pm. Police broke the door of the student’s room and recovered the body.
In one of the notes, shared by the police, the student wrote (in Sylheti language), “Mother, forgive me. I am leaving you today. I am unable to handle the depression and I feel a pain near my chest…” In the second note, he wrote, “I am willingly committing suicide, nobody is responsible for my suicide.”
Police said the family members of the deceased student have verified the handwriting. “Still these notes will be examined as per law but the prima facie evidence suggests that this was a suicide,” an official said.
