Guwahati, Dec 27: Assam police have launched a man-hunt for the principal of a Guwahati-based school after a 13-year-old minor girl from the school died by committing suicide by jumping from the 5th floor of the school. The girl was a student of Class 8.
According to police sources, this happened after the Principal of the school allegedly harassed and scolded the girl over her alleged ‘love affair’ with another student of the school who is a relative of the Principal. The girl has left behind a suicide note detailing the alleged ‘harassment’ and the ‘trauma’ she had to face, police sources added.
The incident took place on December 24, 2021. The minor girl battled for life in a private Guwahati hospital for days and on Sunday succumbed to her injuries.
This has led to protests by parents and family demanding justice. Police sources said the Principal had called the parents of the minor boy but never called the patents of the girl for a meeting. Locals alleged that the Principal had insulted and harassed the minor girl in front of the boy’s parents and this left the girl traumatised and allegedly forced her to take the extreme step.
Meanwhile, police have registered a case under IPC sections – abetment of offence (IPC 115), abetment of suicide by minor (IPC 305) against the Principal of the school, Jonali Das, based on the suicide note of the minor girl.
Police sources informed that the Principal of the school is absconding and a massive man hunt has been launched to nab her. The school has been locked down so that evidences cannot be tampered with, police sources added.
