Dibrugarh, Feb 5: In a shocking incident, a 14-year-old minor girl, who was allegedly gang-raped inside a tea garden for two days in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh, was found on Sunday.
The prime accused Bhaijan Ali has been arrested and another four persons were picked up for interrogation.
Meanwhile, police have started investigation into the case.
According to police, the minor girl was found laying unconscious at Athabari tea garden on Sunday afternoon.
“The hands and legs of the minor girl were tied with rope. It has been suspected that the minor was gang-raped. She was missing since February 3. The minor girl is a resident of Bebegia village in Lahowal,” said a police source.
Bhaijan Ali is the prime accused and his two accomplices allegedly supplied him liquor.
“On February 3, the minor girl was abducted by Bhaijan Ali and he took her to Athabari tea garden and allegedly raped her for two days. Today, the mother of the victim minor girl suspected Bhaijan Ali for kidnapping her girl and questioning him and when the news spread and police was informed, Baijan Ali and his accomplice were arrested,” said a police source.
Dibrugarh Additional superintendent of police (HQ) Bitul Chetia said, “We have found the girl today from tea garden area of Lahowal. We suspected that the girl was raped. We have sent her to AMCH for treatment and examination. We have also arrested the prime accused and started our investigation.”
“We have booked the accused under Prohibition of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 and 376 IPC. We are investigating the matter,” Chetia said.
“We condemn the incident and demand capital punishment for who have committed the heinous act. Within span of five days, two crimes reported from Dibrugarh. Earlier, a 4-year-old minor boy was abducted and murdered. It’s a total failure of police,” said Arpana Bora, a woman activist from Dibrugarh.
