Assam: Notorious drug smuggler Balwinder Singh transferred to Dibrugarh jail

Dibrugarh, Aug 13: Notorious drug smuggler Balwinder Singh on Tuesday transferred to Dibrugarh Central jail for the first time under NDPS Act.

Confirming the development, Dibrugarh Superintendent of police Rakesh Reddy said today Balwinder Singh was brought to Dibrugarh Central Jail in this evening.

“We don’t know about his movement to Dibrugarh. After he was brought to Dibrugarh Central Jail, we came to know about the development. We have no information about him,” said Reddy.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said Balwinder Singh alias Billa was taken into custody during a joint operation conducted by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Punjab Police. Singh was arrested under Section 3(1) of the NDPS Act.

Yadav said Billa was detained from Gurdaspur in a joint operation conducted by the NCB and the Punjab Police.

Billa, who hails from the Havelian village in Tarn Taran district, has been active in drugs smuggling since 1992 and has “deep connections” with Pakistan-based drug syndicates, said the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officer.

He is facing more than 10 drugs cases.

After Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh and his ten other associate, Billa become the eleventh criminal from Punjab who was brought to Dibrugarh Central jail.

Dibrugarh Central jail is in limelight after Amritpal Singh was brought to the jail.
