Assam: Opposition files FIR against CM Himanta for giving communal & unconstitutional remarks

Guwahati, Aug 28: The Opposition Unity Forum (OUF) on Wednesday lodged an FIR in Guwahati’s Dispur police station against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s communal and unconstitutional remarks targeting minority community.

Talking to reporters, Opposition Unity Forum’s Assam President Bhupen Borah said, “Today the opposition Unity Forum Assam along with 18 of our political parties lodged an FIR at Dispur Police Station against the communal remarks of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma targeting minority community.”

“Since the Lok Sabha 2024 elections, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been continuously giving communal statements. The CM has been trying to incite communal riots in the state. Now he is giving such communal statement inside and outside the Assembly. We have already written a letter to the President and the Governor to remove Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma from Chief Minister’s post,” Borah further said.

On Tuesday, during the assembly session, CM Sarma said he won’t let ‘Miya’ Muslims to “take over” Assam.

The opposition in Assam has demanded that President Droupadi Murmu and Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya remove Sarma from Chief Minister’s chair for his series of ‘communal and unconstitutional’ statements allegedly aimed at creating clashes between communities.
