Assam: Opposition Unity Forum demands Guv, President to sack Himanta as CM for communal remarks

Guwahati, Aug 28: The Opposition Unity Forum (OUF) has come down heavily on chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and demanded the President of India and Assam Governor to sack him for his communal and unconstitutional remarks.

Addressing a press conference, Opposition Unity Forum (OUF) President Bhupen Kumar Bora claimed, “It has come to light that Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was directly involved in the Sivasagar incident. The Sivasagar district BJP president has taken the initiative and warned the minority community especially ‘Miya’ Muslims of Sivasagar.”

“Chief minister has been trying to incite communal violence in Assam by giving hate speech. He been has doing polarization to divide the people for their own political benefits. The Anti-Oikya Forum will seek an inquiry into the unaccounted assets of the Chief Minister and his family through a Supreme Court judge also,” Bora said.

MP Rakibul Hussain said, “After the defeat of Badruddin Ajmal, the Chief minister has lost direction. He does not want the problems of Khilanjia of Assam to be resolved.”

Meanwhile, a resolution was also passed in the meeting of the Opposition Unity Forum to republish the impeachment motion against the Chief Minister with new information.

Hussain appealed to all parties to refrain from acts that could destroy the unity and harmony among various ethnic groups of Assam and criticised the Chief Minister for failing to provide security to the people of Assam, especially in controlling crimes against women.

The proposal to hold talks with all national organisations in Assam was also discussed in the meeting.

Before the press conference, a meeting was held between the presidents and secretaries of 18 political parties.

MPs Pradyut Bordoloi, Rakibul Hussain, Ajit Kumar Bhuiyan, Leader of Opposition in Assam Assembly Debabrata Saikia, CPI(M) leader Suprakash Talukdar, Opposition Oikya Manch secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi and others attended the meeting.
