Assam: Over 29,000 people affected by flood in three districts

Guwahati, June 16: After Incessant rain for the last two days, over 29,000 people have been affected by flood across three districts of Assam.

According to the official data, Lakhimpur is worst hit after affecting almost 23,500 people, followed by Dibrugarh with more than 3,800 people and Dhemaji with almost 1,500 persons.

Meanwhile, the administration has launched three relief distribution centres in the Lakhimpur district.

An official of ASDMA said that at present, around 25 villages are under water and 215.57 hectares of crop areas have been damaged across Assam.

Embankments, roads, bridges and other infrastructure have also been damaged by flood waters in Lakhimpur, Goalpara, Biswanath, Dhemaji, Baksa, Dima Hasao and Karimganj districts.

The officials also said that no river is flowing above the danger mark in Assam as of now,.

On Wednesday, the Guwahati-based Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) predicted heavy rainfall activity over the Northeastern region during the next five days.
