Assam: Pangolin and leopard skins recovered, three arrested

Dibrugarh, Jan 21: Doomdooma Forest Division and the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) have arrested three individuals and recovered pangolin skin, leopard skin, and sambar deer antlers near Badlabhata Tea Estate in Assam’s Tinsukia district on Tuesday.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Ajit Moran, Dipen Chetia, and Mantu Moran.

Sharing the news on X, the Assam Forest Department stated:

“Relentless fight against illegal #wildlife trade! #Pangolin skin, #leopard skin, and #sambar deer antler were recovered in a joint operation by Doomdooma Forest Division & @WCCBHQ near Badlabhata Tea Estate, Tinsukia. Arrested accused: Ajit Moran, Dipen Chetia & Mantu Moran.”

The Forest Department has been intensifying efforts to combat wildlife crime across Assam. “We have implemented strict measures to curb wildlife crime in Assam’s forests. Our forest guards are vigilant, conducting night patrols to ensure such crimes are controlled,” a forest official said.

In another success against wildlife crime, a forest patrol inside Behali WLS (P) arrested one Nabam Tama (35) from Arunachal Pradesh and seized a deer carcass (species yet to be identified) & a single-barrel firearm late last night. His two accomplices managed to escape into the jungle.
