Guwahati, April 19: In a major crackdown on narcotics, Assam Police seized a large quantity of drugs and arrested three individuals in two separate anti-narcotic operations conducted in South Salmara Mankachar district on Saturday.
Acting on credible intelligence, a team from the South Salmara Police Station conducted a raid at Rajabala Bhalukkandi. Two individuals were arrested during the operation, and a significant cache of drugs was recovered.
The seized items included:2,000 Yaba tablets,3 packets of heroin,18 vials of heroin, weighing 31 grams in total, and 2 mobile handsets.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Somer Ali (36) and Yad Ali (24), both residents of South Salmara Mankachar.
In a separate operation under the supervision of the Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ), another drug peddler was apprehended at Suryamoni Ghat, also under the jurisdiction of South Salmara Police Station. The accused, Tayezuddin (44) of Sholiya village, attempted to resist arrest and conceal the narcotics but was swiftly overpowered by the police.

According to a police official, “During the operation, Tayezuddin tried to manhandle police personnel and conceal the contraband, but was overpowered and detained. He had been using a motorcycle without a number plate for peddling in nearby areas of Sholiya.”

From his possession, the police recovered 24 grams of heroin, 792 Tramadol capsules (in 33 strips, 2 empty plastic vial, one mobile phon, one motorcycle without a number plate, one straw smoking pipe and one piece of aluminium foil.
Investigations are underway, and police have intensified surveillance in the region to curb drug trafficking activities.
