Assam Police detains at least 50 persons for attacking policemen on duty in Lakhimpur

Guwahati, Sep 8: Assam police detained at least 50 persons on Thursday after a group of villagers attacked a police team by “biting” them, injuring several personnel.

According to reports, the incident took place at Bongalmara’s No 2 Ahmedpur village.

“When the police team went there to search for the accomplice of an alleged drug peddler, who was earlier arrested. The villagers attacked the policemen on duty. Most of them bit the police personnel,” said a police official.

He said, “The attackers managed to free the arrested accused, who fled from th e place,”.

Meanwhile, Lakhimpur SP along with full force launched a manhunt in the area.

“After the manhunt, at least 50 people were detained, and all of them have been kept at different police stations and outposts,” the official said.

He said, “We have started an investigation into the case and started interogation of the detainee. Such things are common in the village area, but this time they have attacked policemen on duty. Our search operation is on to nab the persons”.
