Guwahati, May 10: Manoj Gogoi, an Assam Police Constable, lost his life due to cerebral malaria while on election duty in Chhattisgarh. The 38-year-old, hailing from Sarupathar in the Golaghat district, was posted in the 5th Assam Police Battalion located in Sontilla, Dima Hasao.
According to family members, Manoj Gogoi fell ill on May 4 while performing his duties in Surguja, Chhattisgarh. He was admitted to a local hospital and later airlifted to Krishnasagar Hospital in Raipur for advanced treatment. However, he succumbed to the disease on the evening of May 8.
His mortal remains were flown to Guwahati last night. Assam DGP GP Singh and other top police officials paid their last respects at the Police Headquarters. The body was then sent to his hometown for the final rites, which were performed today with full state honors.
Manoj Gogoi is survived by his wife, Ajanta Gogoi, and four children. His untimely demise has left his family and the entire village in a state of shock and mourning.
