Dibrugarh, Aug 31: Tirtha Chetri, the in-charge of the Bogibeel police outpost, was injured while attempting to prevent a constable from committing suicide at the Bogibeel police outpost in Dibrugarh. The constable has been identified as Pranjal Borah.
According to the latest information, Chetri is currently undergoing treatment at the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH). Meanwhile, Pranjal Borah has been arrested.
A local resident stated, “Pranjal Borah had an altercation with his wife this morning over some petty issues. He came to the police outpost and, with a service rifle, tried to shoot himself, but the inspector in-charge, Tirtha Chetri, prevented him by injuring himself.”
The resident added, “Pranjal was depressed after the altercation with his wife and then tried to take the extreme step by killing himself, but due to the timely intervention of the in-charge of Bogibeel outpost, he was saved.”
The service rifle has been seized by the police for investigation, and authorities have launched an inquiry into the case.
