Guwahati, May 1: Several political parties of Assam on Monday staged a protest at Dighalipukhuri against Sexual harassment by BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. They staged the protest in solidarity with the wrestlers in their struggle against sexual harassment by the BJP MP.

Lok Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, Assam Pradesh Women Congress president Mira Barthakur and others political parties members attended at the protest in Guwahati.

Wrestlers continued their protest for the 8th day in Delhi on the sexual harassment case. Just two days back, two FIRs were registered against the MP.

Speaking to media persons, Lok Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan said, “We are protesting against the government for safeguarding their MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Wrestlers who had made India proud alleged that Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh sexually assaulted them. The Wrestlers are protesting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. We are with the wrestlers and demand immediate arrest of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.”

“He is person with criminal background and the BJP has been using such persons for political interest,” Bhuyan added.

Mira Borthakur, president of Assam Pradesh Women Congress, said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi gives slogan of ‘Beti Bacchao Beti Padao” but the Wrestlers who had made India proud are not getting justice. The BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh should be arrested immediately but the government has been safeguarding him. The women wrestlers have made serious accusations against him for sexually harassing the women wrestlers. But the government has been silent on this issue.”

“We demand his arrest within 48-hours and if they fail to arrest him, then we will intensify our protest,” Borthakur added.

“We stand with the wrestlers in their struggle against Sexual harassment by the BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and we need Justice on this issue,” said a protester.
