Assam: Prime accused arrested in abduction of BJP MLA’s granddaughter

Guwahati, March 18: Assam Police have arrested the prime accused in the alleged abduction of BJP MLA Ramakanta Deuri’s granddaughter from Morigaon on Monday night.

The victim’s family had lodged an FIR immediately after the abduction, stating that a group of individuals had forcibly kidnapped the young woman.

A case was registered at Morigaon Police Station under Case No. 78/25, with charges filed under Sections 140(3) and 111(2)(B) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Following an intensive investigation, police arrested four individuals, including a 17-year-old girl. The Juvenile Court later granted her bail.

The remaining accused, identified as Bhabhajit Medhi, Fizulat Rahman, and Abinash Thakuria Rahman, have been remanded to police custody.

After a rigorous search operation, police also arrested the alleged mastermind, Armanur Rahman. His father, Fizulat Rahman, had already been arrested earlier in the case.

The victim was successfully rescued with the assistance of Guwahati City Police and Golaghat Police.

“We have arrested five persons in connection with the abduction case. The victim was rescued by our police team. The investigation is ongoing,” said a senior police official.
