Guwahati, May 7: In a landmark move blending tradition with technology, the stately corridors of Assam’s Raj Bhavan are set for a digital renaissance, thanks to a groundbreaking partnership with IIT Guwahati.
In a ceremony graced by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed between the two institutions, heralding the nation’s first-ever digital transformation initiative for a Governor’s Secretariat.
The Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor, Meenakshi Sundaram, and Director of IIT Guwahati, Prof. Devendra Jalihal, inked the agreement at Raj Bhavan, launching the ambitious Gyan Kalyan Project. The project will see IIT Guwahati act as a knowledge partner and digital consultant, bringing cutting-edge technological innovations to streamline and enhance the operations of Raj Bhavan.

The Gyan Kalyan Project is designed to strengthen the Governor’s constitutional responsibilities—including legislative, executive, and judicial duties—by incorporating advanced information systems and 360-degree security protocols.
The project envisions a digitally empowered nerve center for the state’s constitutional head. The Governor’s Office will also see the launch of an integrated platform that consolidates initiatives, institutional interactions, and citizen feedback.
“This is not just about technology; it’s about transforming governance at the highest constitutional level with efficiency and foresight,” said Prof. Jalihal.
