Guwahati, April 5: All eyes will be on Assam today for the 3rd and the final phase of polls for the remaining 40 of the total 126 seats, today the polling would take place in the lower Assam region.

The polling would take place in Kamrup metro where Guwahati situated, the Polling would also take place in the Kamrup rural … the Bodoland region and entire lower Assam… 79 lakh voters will cast their votes in over 11 thousand polling centres… to decide the fate of 337 candidates including 25 women … the heavyweights includes Assam Cabinet minister and BJP’s top leader Himanta Biswa Sarma; Ministers Siddhartha Bhattacharjee; Chandramohan Patowary, Phani Bhushan Choudhury; Pramila Rani Bramha and Chandan Brahma … top leader from UPPL U.G Brahma; BJP Assam chief Ranjit Kumar Dass and Bhojpuri singing sensation Kalpana Patowary.

Lower Assam is seen as the Muslim heartland … particularly the Bengali speaking Muslims who make over 30 percent of the total 35 percent Muslim voters in Assam are a determining factor.

The congress led mahajoth is expected to door well since Bengali Muslims mostly votes for the Ajmal led AIUDF or the congress; the mahajoth would expect that there will be no division of Muslims votes … the BPF; which was an ally of the BJP even three months back is now part of mahajoth … the polling in the Bodoland region will be the keenly contested…
