Assam reconstructs Beat House at Mukroh village

Must read

Shillong, Dec 19: Following the gutting of the Assam Beat Office at Mukroh village in the aftermath of the Assam Police firing in the village that killed 5 people of the Khasi community on November 22, 2022, the Assam government has reconstructed the Beat House and posted officials there.

The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) along with the village leaders from Mukroh on Monday came to visit Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and apprise him of the development and wanted his intervention to remove the Assam Beat House from the area, as the village falls inside Meghalaya territory.

The General Secretary of KSU, Donald Thabah, said the objective of the meeting was to urge upon the state government to persuade the Assam government to remove the Assam Beat Office at Mukroh.

“We came to meet the Chief Minister to apprised him on the issues face by the people of Mukhroh, but we didn’t meet him as he is not well,” said Thabah, who was supposed to meet the CM in his official chamber at the Chief Minister’s Office.

Thabah said, “We visited Mukroh recently and found that Assam reconstructed the Beat House which was even better furnished than the last one and there were officials there. The beat office is inside the territory of Mukroh. They (Assam) entered illegally.”
