Shillong, April 11: In a significant step towards strengthening its bond with retired personnel, the Assam Rifles on Friday hosted the first-ever Assam Rifles Ex-Servicemen Association (ARESA) Conclave in Shillong.
The event aimed at fostering coordination, addressing key issues, and prioritizing the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families.
The conclave was chaired by Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General of Assam Rifles, who paid homage to the contributions of the veteran community. In his address, he acknowledged the crucial role played by ex-servicemen in safeguarding the nation and stressed the importance of ongoing support and engagement with the retired fraternity. He underlined that the conclave was an essential platform for dialogue, feedback, and progress.
Throughout the day, discussions were held on a range of topics including the dissemination of important information related to welfare benefits and grants, updates from the 2024–25 Annual General Body Meeting, and the current organizational structure of ARESA. The forum also served to identify challenges faced by ex-servicemen and explore practical measures to resolve them. Functionality and outreach of the association were key themes, with a focus on improving connect and accountability.
The Director of ARESA, speaking at the event, said the conclave reflects the shared spirit and commitment of the Assam Rifles family. “It’s heartening to see our veterans being recognized and supported in such a meaningful way,” he said.
The Assam Rifles reaffirmed its dedication to the welfare of its ex-servicemen and announced that similar conclaves would be organized in other parts of the country in the future, ensuring broader outreach and inclusion.
