Dibrugarh, May 5: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday praised the courage, discipline, and rich cultural heritage of the Moran community, stating that their contributions extend beyond Assam and are widely respected across India.
Addressing the 57th Foundation Day celebration of the All Moran Students’ Union at Doomdooma Town Playground, Sonowal reaffirmed the BJP-led government’s commitment to preserving the community’s heritage while promoting holistic development.
“The valour, commitment, and fearlessness of the Moran community are recognised nationwide. With strong spiritual values and cultural traditions, they have played a vital role in strengthening Assam’s social fabric,” he said.

As part of the festivities, Sonowal inaugurated two significant traditional events—‘Gos Tolor Bihu’ and ‘Kheri’, the latter involving over 1,000 participants. He lauded the All Moran Students’ Union for nearly six decades of tireless efforts in addressing core community issues and enriching the greater Assamese identity.
“The youth of the Moran community possess immense talent, skill, and resolve,” Sonowal added. “We must empower them with modern thinking, scientific knowledge, and technological tools so they can thrive in today’s competitive world.”
He further emphasised the Moran community’s pivotal role in Assam’s public life, highlighting their unmatched sacrifices, patriotism, and work ethic. “Since coming to power, the BJP government has prioritised protecting and promoting the Moran cultural legacy. Their contributions have earned due recognition and respect,” he said.
