Guwahati, May 2: Indian Youth Congress (IYC) president Srinivas BV filed an anticipatory bail petition in the Gauhati High Court on Tuesday. Anticipatory bail plea might come up for hearing on Wednesday.

Srinivas’s petition for quashing the FIR against him by Assam police will be again heard on Thursday.

The Youth Congress chief skipped date given by Assam police for his cross examination.

Indian Youth Congress president Srinivas B V had been asked to appear at Dispur police station in Guwahati on Tuesday in connection with a complaint filed by a expelled Congress leader Angkita Dutta.

Earlier, the Gauhati High Court observed that the interim prayer to stay the FIR could only be considered after the receipt of the case diary from the police and after the complainant is served notice. The matter had been listed for May 2, and hearing is set to start soon.

Dutta in her FIR alleged harassment and gender discrimination against Srinivas BV.

Srinivas’ petition in the Gauhati High Court appealing for quashing of the FIR against him will also be taken up by the court again later in the day.

On April 19, expelled Assam Youth Congress president Angkita Dutta had filed a complaint at Dispur police station alleging that Srinivas was “persistently harassing and torturing her for the last six months by making sexist comments, using slang words and also threatening her (with) dire consequences if she keeps complaining against him to the senior party office bearers”.

A five-member Guwahati police team went to Bengaluru on April 23 and pasted a notice at his residence, directing him to appear at the Dispur Police station by May 2, 2023.

The Court of Justice Ajit Borthakur, after hearing both sides, had posted the matter for further hearing on May 2.

Srinivas had also approached a local court in Bengaluru on April 28 for transit anticipatory bail, but his plea was rejected.
