Dibrugarh, May 24: Tinsukia District Commissioner Swapnil Paul on Thursday said that the demise of 11 individuals at Tongona tea estate was not due to cholera. They died due to the consumption of illicit liquor and other diseases.
Addressing a press conference in Tinsukia, Paul said, “The 11 deceased workers from the Tongna tea estate did not die of cholera or diarrhoea. All types of necessary tests were completed on the deceased individuals at ICMR but no trace of diarrhoea or cholera was found in their samples,”.
“The ICMR tests showed no signs of cholera or diarrhea in the workers’ bodies. The district administration and health department’s investigation brought this to light,” Paul said.
He further added, “The health department and administration have found that some workers died due to the consumption of illicit liquor and some due to other health reasons. A 24-hour mobile medical camp has been set up in the Tongna tea estate,”.
