Dibrugarh, Jan 20: Two leopard cubs were found abandoned at New Bochapathar village near the Dikom police outpost in Dibrugarh on Monday morning.
The cubs, believed to be around three to four weeks old, were discovered lying in a shallow canal among tea bushes by estate workers during their morning rounds.
“The cubs appear to be healthy and around 2-3 weeks old. It’s likely that the mother temporarily left them due to human activity nearby, which is a common defensive behavior in leopards,” said a forest official.
He added, “We’ve advised everyone to keep a safe distance and avoid direct contact with the cubs. Any human scent could cause the mother to reject them, which would jeopardize their chances of survival.”
“The health of both cubs is stable, and they are being closely monitored by our veterinary team,” the official confirmed.
The discovery of the cubs quickly attracted attention from local residents, prompting forest officials to set up a protective perimeter around the area.
