Guwahati, June 8: In continued operation against wildlife crimes, two suspected poachers were injured during a shootout with forest officials at the Musalpur division area of Manas National park in Assam on Wednesday.
The injured individuals have been identified as Dharmendra Vari and Gopal Bahadur Magar, both residents of Baksa district.
“After getting specific information, the forest team traced the suspected poachers inside the restricted area of the forest. Our forest team asked them to surrender but they didn’t surrender and the forest team had to open fire and during the firing incident they sustained bullet injuries on hand and back,” said a forest official.
He added they were arrested and have been admitted to Barpeta Medical College for treatment.
“During our search operation, we have seized five handmade guns, several live cartridges, and stash of wild boar meat from the poachers,” the official added.
